David and Christina
David and his wife, Christina

A brief look at what David has achieved is by looking at his website wall of testimonials.

David went to a secondary modern school in his surrey home at the age of just 12, where for four years he learned life. His reports were moderate but he developed a skill for art and pottery, at the pottery he wrote his first book under then the notorious teacher, Mr Smith.

His main love at school was art, and he was awarded first place from the second year to class 4 x on leaving. Upon leaving the art teacher Mr Houghton surprised him and said “David you can use the hall wall for a mural! Would you like that? David with a big grin painted a 32ft by 12ft countryside scene, unbeknown to him or his art teacher it would become his Norfolk Home.

He and his wife now reside in a beautiful bungalow in the village of Walsingham, sadly they couldn’t have children but they have a lovely little dog called Kayleigh who brings so much joy to the pair of them.

David in his many books took on one exceptional history book we all know about in our earlier teachings, called ‘Dunkirk, a historical truthful event. In the book written lovingly with the help of a proofreader who summed David up and said “David Buettner Banks is an exceptional man”, you would not expect the book Dunkirk to be anything other than exceptional.

David in his seventies is severely disabled with osteoarthritis which affects every bone in his body, said ‘One thing it hasn’t affected is my hands and mind”. However, he doesn’t want to be defined by his suffering, although this has led him to devote the proceeds of his many popular booklets to the motor Neurone Disease Association.

David born in Cincinnati Ohio USA is proud to write and have published stories of the brave young men of USA who gave up their freedom, to fight against evil and for some to sadly pay the ultimate sacrifice.

Following this, it didn’t stop on 6th January 2021 he had another letter from this time Charles HJ Davies, MVO Private Secretary to Princess Royal thanking him for the work he has graciously done for MNDA and one day hopes to meet him.

Following all these appraisals Esther Fifield the Community Fundraiser recently emailed David to say he has raised £2813.80, so this elderly man who 50 years ago was the tender age of just 16 left for the big world, and three years later met a Sutton Girl fell in love, and married 21/9/1968 and together made a home in Sutton. But sadly though David when in his Norfolk home developed arthritis, and his wife said one Sunday afternoon in 2018 ” Why don’t you write a book?……. History was made.
