This is the front cover for my new book Mission 115 Schweinfurt Oct 1943 priced £41.50 (postage included) but it is a book to put in your library for it contains every B-17 on that mission with the names of 3,000+ men never been done before. The artwork is by Matthew Emeny.
American bomber doctrine set forth the manner in which the Americans were determined to make war in the air: self defending armadas of heavy bombers ranging at will over Germany in daylight, conducting precision attacks. Beginning in June 1943,as the United States began to expand its force of heavy bombers in the Eighth Army Airforce, operating out of dozens of bases in England, a battle raged in the skies over Germany.
By Autumn 1943 the American air fleets were suffering losses at rates which they had not predicted. In mid October 1943 in a series of missions, the B-17’s of the Eighth Air Force and the German fighter forces met in savage combat in the skies over Germany. On October 8, they attacked Bremen with a loss of 29 B-17s. On October 9th they attacked Anklam, Marienburg and Gdynia, with a loss of 28 B-17s. On Oct 10th they attacked Munster, Coesfield, and Enschede with 30 B-17s lost. Four days later they prepared to attack Schweinfurt. Allied fighters would not be able to escort the bomber force all the way to the target and back.
This book is about that mission.

As a disabled writer I too now understand the complexity of writing a book and to get all the details correct. I sincerely thank Jim for pointing me in the correct path to bring you the reader into the facts of my book with a declaration of respect to the young men of the Eighth Airforce of 1943, what they endured and went through.
